What are we doing?

Blendle is an online news platform where users can discover the world’s best journalism. Browse newspapers and magazines for free, and never pay for anything other than what you actually read. We’re completely overhauling the way journalism is experienced.

After launching in 2014, Blendle has more than one million users in Holland and Germany. We’re now launching in the US, along with some of the world’s best publishers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. So, do you want to join us in changing journalism forever?

With funding from The New York Times, Axel Springer (owner of Business Insider) and Nikkei (owner of The Financial Times), Blendle is one of the most exciting media companies in the world and we want you to join us. Now in private beta, with your help we’ll launch Blendle publicly to the whole USA!

What do we need?

Our team consists of a bunch of crazy smart people working together to transform the world of high-quality journalism. We’re looking for a business development whizz to take charge of our US publisher strategy and keep our key contacts as happy as possible. As Head of Business Development, USA, you’ll work from New York City, frequently meeting with the largest publishers in the world, making sure they join us on our adventure and keeping them engaged. You’ll be a trusted advisor and friend to our key contacts to get them as excited about Blendle as we are. You’ll spearhead our publisher partner strategy in the USA and be instrumental in driving us towards revenue and user growth. And as the first hire on the ground, you will be Blendle USA.

This is a truly unique opportunity to be the founding member of Blendle USA. We need someone who is a highly motivated self-starter, thrives in a challenging environment and is excited to introduce Blendle to the USA. Do you have what it takes?

4. Freedom

You decide when and where you work. Roland starts his day opening his laptop on a Rotterdam balcony and Jean regularly spends the night talking to himself in our chat program while coding. We assume you know what works best for you, so you don’t need us to make the rules. 

So what will you be doing?

  • Evaluate strategic and partnership opportunities with publishers, performing a broad range of quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Lead the charge in convincing publishers to join us on our journey
  • Be solely responsible for contract negotiations with publishing partners
  • Support the partnership process from contact sourcing, relationship building and networking, all the way through to post-contract workflow onboarding and relationship management
  • Create and maintain unbreakable working relationships with publishing partners, engaging with them frequently to build friendship and trust in everyday matters
  • Gather information and data for our publisher partners, providing them insights into how they’re doing on Blendle USA and getting them the information they need in an easy-to-digest format
  • Learn from our publisher partners about their needs, desires and fears, so that you can take steps to address them with our product teams
  • Form creative partnerships with publishing partners (and potentially other corporations) to bolster growth in the US
  • Coordinate with our team back in Holland on product, marketing and technical aspects, as required

Who we’re looking for?
  • You are self-motivated with a strong drive and desire to achieve
  • You have strong numerical and analytical skills, excelling in the use of insights and data-driven decision making
  • You understand American business and social culture
  • You have an entrepreneurial start-up attitude, hands-on mentality, high motivation and willingness to learn
  • You have the ability to thrive under pressure in an unstructured, fast paced environment
  • You are willing to travel (domestically and internationally up to 25% of your time)

Your background?

  • You have 3-5 years experience in identifying, negotiating and closing deals, with a proven track record in building and executing deals in new markets
  • Big plus: experience in media, publishing and/or journalism.
